The group of 7 students, who commenced in Sep 2004 and who is currently in their 4th year, went out to Auroville with Tutors Gabi Gillessen and Liz Moffat, for an intensive and challenging 2 week India experience. This is a first for the IYA, and a tentative step to yet again redefine the scope and standards for the Teacher Training Course.   The program is based in Verite community in Auroville, the International city in Tamil Nadu, India. The community provides residence and vegetarian cooking, as well as laundry and a bicycle. The yoga studio is on the premises, and has a beautiful view over the gardens and a lovely ambience inside.   The program covers Asana practise, philosophy, Teaching methods and Integration of the experience, as well as guest lecturers from Auroville and plenty other activities, sight seeing and networking to hopefully make this an unforgettable experience.

"We really got to eat, sleep & breathe Yoga - India experience really touched me more than anything one could be taught in a class"

"Best experience of my life"

"One of the best experience of my life - loved it!"

"Brilliant experience, icing on the cake, invaluable, tough to travel that distance, I should have stayed longer! Have the IYA to thank."

My experience by Monique Walsh

It was a real privilege to spend two weeks in a community in Auroville in the South of India with my fellow trainees and tutors as part of our final year teacher training course. Not only did we have our six hours daily yoga sessions in a beautiful space, we enjoyed lovely vegetarian organic ayurvedic food, no sign of alcohol or coffee! Very good detox after Christmas! We all felt the better for it.  New Years Eve was spent in a Tibetan pavilion lit up with 2008 candles and to the sound of beautiful chanting. We also had the unique experience of meditating in the inner chamber of the Matrimandir, this was a very special and sacred space and I felt like being in an ancient Egyptian pyramid. Gabi kept us busy organizing various visits to many different communities in Auroville and some projects in surrounding Indian villages.  We walked up a sacred mountain and visited Hindu temples and Ashrams… and all this in a very pleasant sunshine!  I would highly recommend it to anybody. A big thank you to Gabi who kindly organized this marvelous trip and to the whole group for being so supportive all along the way.
